Walls of Khiva at Dawn

Khiva, Uzbekistan 2012

The walls of the old city gleam golden at sunrise and sunset, a breathtaking sight. Torie and I walked around the walls in the morning and in the evening climbed the large bastion for pictures of the serpentine crenelated walls. Looking at this photo, I see a resemblance to the Jaiselmer Fort with its 99 bastions. Ideas traveled past borders even in those pre-internet days.
