Araouane

Araouane, an oasis in the Sahara Desert

Araouane

Araouane, Mali 2005

Araouane, about half-way between Timbuktu and the salt mines of Taodenni,  was a destination for camel caravans since caravans began crossing the Sahara Desert. Araouane has seven wells and the wells were the lifeblood of Araouane’s economy. The wells are still in use but the demand for water is not what it once was. Diesel trucks do not need water.
