Bull Jumping Ceremony

Ethiopia Decorative designs applied to a Hamar man's face

Ceremonial

Omo Valley, Ethiopia 2013

The Hamar men sat in a huddle in the shade. All were young and in their prime.  Faces were smeared with red ochre. Incantations were whispered. It was a special day. A young Hamar man would be welcomed into the tribe as an elder if he could pass the bull-jumping test.
