Burkina Faso Painted House

Burkina Faso 2000

I’m going to make a print of this today. Could anything be more beautiful? The uneven checkerboard design, the diamonds becoming triangles…were there two artists and one forgot the design or had the artist simply been inspired??? The bamboo blinds hanging at a slant complete a masterpiece of abandon and exuberance.

What if you were told to decorate your home and given just black paint? Could you think of something as beautiful? I couldn’t. This house has one tiny window with a shutter, now open. The Guerounsi live their life outdoors. Inside is for sleeping and storing food and utensils.
