Carnival Celebration in the Sacred Valley

Pisac, Peru 2003

Local villagers in their best dress dance in a contest at the end of Lent. There were at least twenty groups from various villages in the Sacred Valley. They formed a line from the front of our hotel to the village of Pisac…a kilometer long line of dancers. They didn’t waste time as they waited. They practiced their dance. Winning the contest was important.
