Winnowing Grain

Omo Valley, Ethiopia 2013

Photo tours arrived in the village one after the other. I’m sure the Dassenatch, and other tribes, looked on our arrival as a sign to get to work. Most often the women greeted us. I imagine it was below the dignity of the men, who considered themselves warriors, to stoop to the level of welcoming committee.  If the men did greet us, it seemed as if they were laying down rules for our behavior and for how much we would have to pay for our photographs. We’d have to pay per “click” which the tribes were very capable of counting.
