Desert Berbers of Morocco

Berber women carry huge bundles of grass to their village

Berber Women

Morocco, Tafilalet Region, early 2000’s

I stood on the top of a sand dune as these women passed by. They could not duck and hide from my camera this time, although they tried by hiding their face with the grass. My guide chuckled to see how the women tried to avoid me, but he called to them to let me get a good shot. One woman called back that if she had on nice clothes she would let me photograph her. It was a good answer, but I didn’t believe her.
