Dogon Woman

Mali, West Africa 2003

A Dogon woman passes by our group. She turns her head slightly to get a glimpse of the “toubabs” or white people. It never ceased to amaze me at how fashionable these woman appearedĀ despite doing manual labor. Her print dress of full, flowing yet crisp cotton looks fresh from the laundry. Her hair is tiedĀ in an elaborate bow. One shoulder is exposed. They make the dresses like this. Maybe it is cooler or maybe it is just prettier.
