Early America

girl dressed in costume of early America

Early America

Hagerstown, Maryland 2016

Battlefields abound in the area around Hagerstown…Gettysburg, Antietam, and Fort Frederick a refuge during the French and Indian War.  Men, women and children occupied the Fort on the day we visited. All were in costume like this small girl. The girl’s parents gave their permission, but the girl was skeptical. There was no posing involved.

I wanted her to look doll-like and after many layers in Photoshop, I came close. I added a dark vignette to make the girl stand out and I darkened the white tents for the same reason. I couldn’t make it work with color and went to Nik Silver Effects Pro 2 to get the look I wanted.

Now I’m happy. For me, that’s what it is all about.
