Elephant Story

African elephants meet in the wild

Tuskers

Elephant Rescue 2016

We were close enough to the elephants for my 300 mm lens to be adequate. But circumstances were not perfect for me back in 1998. I shot into the sun, remembering to open up, so that I could get some detail on the shadowed hides.  Still, I was unhappy with this negative and didn’t print it. I decided to try once more last week and I’m pretty happy with this. I cropped it and added texture. The texture reminds me of the paper they make out of elephant dung in Thailand.

Elephants at Work

Thai elephants at work. African elephants cannot be trained. They are too ferocious. But the Asian elephant is amenable to training. Look how sweet they are!
