Embroidered shoes for sale in a Chinese village

Handmade

Somewhere in Yunnan Province, China 2005

These hand embroidered shoes were in a little box near the compound wall. They were displayed as if they were for sale.   They don’t look new but the embroidery looks fresh.

Welcome!

Here is the embroiderer. She had been sitting in her doorway on a stool the size of a shoebox. It was the only place in her home where she could get enough light to do her needlework.
