Environmental Action Shot

kokpar match begins in Turkistan

Let the Games Begin!

Turkistan, Kazakhstan 2016

I shot this with my zoom lens on its widest setting…28mm. The wide angle tells a story by including the environment.  I wanted my shot to have a bit of tension that accompanies any sporting contest.  Notice the dogs eagerly awaiting the start of the game. I especially like the way this horse is jumping out of the frame. He’s excited. He senses that he will soon be running full blast with other horses.  His body is a little distorted but that’s what you get with a wide angle lens. I like it here because it adds a sense of action.

I’m close enough to see the rider’s boots… so very Central Asian.  I have another wide angle shot that I like, but a spectator walked into my frame and ruined it. That is the way it goes…Luck has a lot to do with it.
