Erg Chebbi: Crest of Sand Dune

Erg Chebbi: Crest of Sand Dune

Morocco, 1997

Dawn shot of the crest of a dune in Morocco’s Erg Chebbi.  It wasn’t easy to climb to the top. The windward side is softer and the sand slides more than the leeward, so walk on the leeward side.

When I first visited this area, I noticed that the people walked with a sort of sliding step. I attributed it to always walking on sand. Later, after I’d been there for a week or so, I didn’t notice it. Maybe I imagined it.
