Fez, Morocco: Water Seller

Stylized portrait of a Moroccan Water Seller

Water Seller

Fez, Morocco 1995

I love this vintage travel poster look! If only I could get all my photos to work the way this one does. But they won’t. I used Alien Skin’s Snap Art to get this effect. It wasn’t simple. It took me many, many tries.  There is no such thing as a ‘recipe’. Each photo has its own quirks. You must analyze the results you get each time you try something new and figure out what you need to get to your goal. Sometimes it is a matter of intensifying the effect by duplicating the step you have just done.

This man is dressed as a water seller. He roams or used to roam the medina of Fez hoping to get money by posing for photographs. And perhaps at one time he did sell water. Men still do in the bled or countryside. But they won’t pose for you and they won’t be happy if you point your lens at them. Better get your shot in Fez and Marrakesh.
