Fulani or Peul?

Fulani Woman

On the Border Between Mali and Mauritania 2005

We stopped in a market town where the Fulani or Peul (the French call this tribe Peul) women wore these coin headdresses. This woman has a tattoo on her chin in addition to the typical blue lip tattoo. She holds a calabash on her head. Most likely it is full of grain or some other commodity that she wants to sell. The wooden ring over her right arm is a device to hold the calabash.

The Wodaabe tribe is a subset of the Fulani. Bororo is a subset of the Wodaabe and it means cattle herder.
