Golden Eagle

Kazakhstan eagle hunter with eagle

Eagle and Rider

Kazakhstan 2016

A Golden Eagle, eager to hunt, tries to fly from its perch on the hunter’s arm. Her tethered feet hold her captive.  The birds didn’t seem bothered by hanging upside down for a few seconds. The hunters are attentive to the birds and the birds seemed attentive to the hunters. They seemed to want to be close to the hunter. Kazakh eagle hunters use female birds for the hunt as they are about 1/3 larger than the male eagle.
