Western Mongolia

Mongolia 2014

Very little farming is done in Mongolia, only 20% 0f the land is arable. The crops are wheat, barley, potatoes and some fruits and vegetables. The winters are long and severe; early frosts can ruin crops before the harvest.

Here you see the land surrounding the gers where we stayed with a Kazakh family. The ground was covered with a yellowish grass and those little humps…what were they? They were solid earth. Had the many freezing winters caused them to form? If you know, tell me.
