Kokpar in Turkistan

Men on horseback play the oriental polo called Buzhkazi

Sport in Turkistan

Turkistan 2016

Kazakh men enjoy the sport of Buzhkazi or Kokpar as it is called in this region.  As the men rode to the playing field, the  horses became animated. They knew what was coming.

There didn’t seem to be teams. But I could see that two men would cooperate in grabbing the sheep and getting out of the scrum so they could gallop to the goal line.

The men were good riders and their horses fit and agile. To watch this sport was a dream come true for me.

I’ll show more shots of Kokpar later. I tried to get the expressions of the men and of the horses.
