The Eagle Whisperer

Hunter with his eagle perched on his arm

The Master

Kyrgyzstan 2012

You might call him an ‘eagle whisperer’. He is looked up to by younger Kyrgyz men who want to learn the skill of hunting with an eagle. We could see that he and his bird were a team. He talked to his bird to calm her, to encourage her, to praise her.  That was the best part for me, to see the relationship between the two of them.

Once I was telling a friend of mine that Jackie Kennedy had a stable of about 20 horses. (Most riders would consider themselves lucky to have two mounts…when one is lame you still have a horse to ride.) My friend wasn’t envious of Jackie. Her reply to me was, “She can’t possibly have a relationship with them.” It’s the relationship that is important, whether it’s an eagle, a horse, dog or even, maybe, a snake.

I gave this shot a vignette of white to make it look old-fashioned. I try lots of different techniques (it’s easy when you have plug-ins for your image editing program). I like this pose. It was spontaneous, but it looks as if I had told him to extend his left arm. It’s as if he is showing the eagle the way.

We saw the eagle hunt, but I missed the shot. I may have one that is sharp, but I don’t think so. I was too close to the flying eagle and couldn’t get focused. It would have been better if I’d stood back…oh, well. I’ll know next time, if there is a next time.

      Dear Elaine,

Thank you for visiting my blog. I apologize for the delay in responding to you. I do sell my prints. The largest I can print is 17″ x 22″. I print on professional quality Epson Luster paper. The price for one print that size is $50.00 including packaging and postage with in the United States. (U.S. Mail). All sales final. I do take care to make my prints as close as what you see on your monitor. I want you to be pleased.

If you are interested in eagle hunters, may I suggest you look at the shots from Mongolia if you haven’t already.

      Best,
      Rosemary
