Landscape with Kasbah

Id Dougnidif

In western Morocco, kasbahs are built with stone rather than adobe. Here is Kasbah Id Dougnidif. The name is a Berber name. Berber is a separate language, but now incorporates many Arabic words.

The kasbah is almost abandoned now. Only one family lived there when I visited many years ago. I remember a woman named Fatima who took me into her  ‘apartment’ and offered me an orange. So gracious and hospitable because she had only one orange in her cupboard and very little else.
