Man in Red Turban

Portrait of a handsome Rabari Man

“Namaste!”

Gujarat, India 2009

I leaned into oneĀ of those taxis built on a motorcycle to get this shot. The man was surprisedĀ but pleased. When my friends saw him, they insisted he get out of the vehicle so they could get some shots. But once in the harsh sun light, all the magic disappeared. This was the shot…light bouncing into his face from the sunlit road. What is the Hindu equivalent of “Mamma Mia!”?

Beautiful! Did you use any reflector or lighting?

    • Rosemary says:

Good observation, Elizabeth! I didn’t supply the reflector, Mother Nature did. The sun was at its zenith and the white sandy soil of a nearby field reflected light into the vehicle through the doorway. The woven palm strips of the cab’s roof added a golden hue to the light.

Doorway light is one of the best, most flattering lights available to us. Remember Bobbie, our friend in Ethiopia? She told me that!
