stone stairway carved into mountain side near Pisac Peru

Stairway to the Temple

Pisac, Peru 2003

We hired a Quechua man to show us the ruins in the mountains above Pisac. He was young and agile…but I think even old Quechua are agile. He wanted us to climb this stairway so we could see a sacred site on the top of the mountain. What????

And when you got to the top step, you’d have to grab onto the mountain itself and take side steps along a ledge that looked to be about a foot wide. (Maybe I am “mis-remembering” but it was narrow!)  It was dangerous for us but for the locals it was nothing.
