Peru: Little Red Riding Hood

A Quechua girl crosses the mountains alone

Little Red Riding Hood

Peru, somewhere near Pisac 2003

I’ve been thinking of this shot for ages and finally got around to scanning it again. I love this little girl. She is dressed like an adult with her felt hat called a “montera”. She carries her burden in her shawl just as her mother would. She walking rapidly, her body at a slight forward tilt, unaware of my lens following her.

But then she senses that she is not alone. She looks back. And I see her beautiful little face. I don’t think she was afraid as I was standing with a Quechua family. Don’t you love her?
