Sign in Addis Ababa for women fuel wood carriers

Something like the No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia 2013

At first I thought the sign promoted a union. But now I see it is more of a social club…the Former Women Fuelwood Carriers Association. I like the idea of these women dressed in their best, enjoying coffee together, chatting about the good old days when they could carry firewood all day long and still come home and cook a good dinner for their family.

A job well done is something to be proud of. It doesn’t matter what the work is. We do what we can and if we do it well then we are any man’s equal.
