Rice Terraces Flooded

Yunnan Province, China 2005

We had rain and fog almost every day. As I’ve said in earlier posts, I was shooting slides or positives where you only get one chance to get it right. Almost all of my landscapes have a blue cast due to the fog and to the Ektachrome film. I’ve seen photos of this area where the water in the terraces is a bright yellow, no doubt done in Photoshop, but no matter, it looks spectacular. I tried to get something close but when blue is your dominant hue, then you’re stuck with blue.

I do find the terraces exceptionally beautiful and I admired the people who have labored in them for the past 400 years. Men and women in their 70’s were spry and strong. It was inspiring.
