Sari Shopping

A woman is measured for a sari in a small town in India

Sari Shop

Poshina, Gujarat State, India 2009

It must be fun to order a new sari. If you’ve gained a few pounds, it doesn’t matter. If you’ve lost a few pounds, it doesn’t matter. All you need do is choose  your favorite color and you leave the shop feeling happy, knowing that your new outfit will be ready in a few days.  So different from buying a new pair of pants, or a new skirt where the hip or waist or length can be unflattering. Where the mirrors in the dressing room magnify your flaws and might, depending on your age, reveal flaws that you’d never noticed before, flaws that seemingly developed as you drove to the store!
