Somewhere in Anatolia

Konya, Turkey: neighborhood scene

Apartment in Konya

Turkey, early 1990’s

I’m not sure this is Konya but it could be. I’ve never printed this photo before but the scene is a sweet one: two school girls still wearing their pinafore have arrived home. I love the body language of the girl in the doorway. She seems to spy someone. Maybe it is her friend coming up the street. Remember when having your friend over for the afternoon made you giddy with excitement?

Konya Turkey: girl stands in doorway of old house

Girl in Doorway

A somewhat shy girl tilts her head and makes my photo. The doors lead to the courtyard of her home. There is a grim feeling here. Maybe it’s the huge stones and the rather decrepit look of her home.
