Spanish Mission

New Mexico, USA: Detail of Spanish Mission

Detail of Spanish Mission

New Mexico, U.S.A. 1992

I may have posted this photo, but I reworked it, so I’ll post it again. I still like this one even though 25 years have passed since I shot it while trying to channel Paul Strand.

The mission was small yet majestic … built by American Indian tribes indigenous to the area, perhaps the Pueblo tribe. It is the idea of their hands smoothing and shaping the mud, clay, and straw into a thing of beauty that makes me love this photo.
