Pelicans in Moonlight

Ethiopia 2013

This looks nothing like the melee that took place as the Ethiopians tossed fish heads and skeletons to the pelicans and storks. I liked these two birds and decided to see if I could make a photo. I got rid of the background, turned the photo to black and white and added a glow. I had to add a few tail feathers to the bird on the right and add a bit more “real estate” to the right side of the photo for balance.  I emphasized the reflection by brightening with levels or curves. I use both but levels is easier.

It doesn’t always matter what the sequence is when you work on a photo. What does matter is that you always work on a duplicate. You never want to lose your original. Who knows what other ideas might pop into your head?
