Uzbekistan: Ayazkala Palace

Ayaz Kala: the second fort containing a palace was built about 400 AD

Ayaz Kala Palace

Uzbekistan, 2012 The Kyzyl Kum Desert

We stood in the ruined fortress of Ayazkala and looked across the empty, barren desert to the palace where the ruler of Ayazkala once reigned over oases and fertile lands.  No farms visible now. The Kyzyl Kum or red desert lay before us, the land wind-swept and abandoned.
