Women of Ghana

Ghana:colorfully dressed women carry headloads of laundry

Curbside Conversation

Accra, Ghana 2001

This was a messy photo (slide) because the background, although I had blurred it out, was too dark and too busy. I loved these two women with their upraised arms holding the pans full of clean laundry. I love their colorful clothes and the baby sitting so comfortably on his mother’s hip. I couldn’t let this go to waste.

I used  the pen tool to eliminate the background. I brightened the dark shadows on the women’s faces. I used Topaz Simplify to lend a graphic look. And I used Photoshop’s oil paint filter.  Maybe that’s gilding the lily, but just look at the face of this woman after the filter has been applied.  Isn’t she handsome? I love her strong face. I’d need to get rid of the bit of scarf that is in front of her right eye if I wanted to finish this.
