The crowd in the temple at Shamlaji. This was a special festival and I made these colors match the exuberance of the faithful.A farmer near Poshina plows with his bullocks. The smoke is from burning leaves.A camel cart in Palanpur making its way down a street lined with beautiful havelis. Havelis are private mansions. Some of these were being restored. I went in one and the rooms were rather small and they opened off an atrium like entrance. Our guide, Mahesh, noticed some cars filled with Eunuchs and I immediately pointed my camera at them. This man was the prettiest one and he was happy to have his photo taken. I used Photoshop to give a bordello feel to the photograph. I think the Eunuchs would approve. Actually , they attend most weddings, births, etc. and are thought by some to bring good luck. The family always gives them money and they make their living this way.A handsome older Rabari man sits on his charpoy and waits for tea.Two men who seem to be best friends pass the time at a religious festival.Yes, you will have your picture taken! At least one of them has a pleasant expression. He looks as if he just fell out of the nest! He is so cute with his little tattoo, his bindi and the cut on his forehead, no doubt from the fall from the nest.A handsome Rabari man selling buttermilk. Somehow they made it foamy. We didn't want to drink any. This was the shopping district of Palanpur. Cauliflower is a favorite vegetable in India it seems. The old houses have 'zenana' rooms jutting out. These are rooms where the secluded women could look out and see without being seen. The houses are shabby but interesting and good for photos.Harvesting corn near Poshina. These people still use bow and arrow. I was told that the main purpose of the bow and arrow is to shoot each other. The tips of the arrows were made of metal and could easily pierce a chunk of wood or a chunk of flesh. The crones of Cawdor. Actually, just three old women having a discussion but I couldn't resis. This man is coating kite string with a colorful paste of glass particles. Just like the book The Kite Runner. There are many people in Gujarat whose ancestors came from the old area called Sindh in Pakistan and they have kept the tradition of kite flying. This is the dome in the sun temple in Modhera. There were many bats clinging to the dark corners but I ignored my fear of bats and rats and snakes and took this photo. This eunuch was in the other car. I just left him as is. He does have a nice sparkle in his eye, but his companion is scary! There was a special temple for eunuchs and we passed it but at about 60km per hour so I can't tell you about it. I would have gone in if I'd had the chance.A father and daughter made to look like an old photograph. Oh, I love Photoshop! These flamingoes were feeding at the Little Rann of Kutch. Why, oh, why didn't I bring my long lens??? This is the best I could do. There were some wonderful pelicans who sailed along as if they were swans on the Thames. A photographer must be prepared, but I wasn't.
