I found the Chinese very friendly and gracious when I asked to take their photo.  I'm sure most of them were puzzled when I asked but they  obliged.Some village women still make embroidered shoes. Nowadays very few minature shoes are needed but there are some elderly ladies with bound feet. These shoes were made by a grandmotherly woman. She welcomed me into her home. It was in a small village. The only light in the room came from the doorway...at least during the day. It was dark in there and she sat on a stool the size of a shoebox on her doorstep while she did her needle work. She was pleased that I photographed the shoes.Festival balloons in Yushou.Firecrackers are a part of every celebration in China, especially weddings. We would be surprised at the explosion of hundreds of firecrackers as we passed restaurants where there was a wedding party.Ginger and Banana blossoms dipped in fuschia.Schoolgirls huddle under their umbrella as they head for school. The sidewalks were slippery with mud slurry. The Chinese were used to it but I was afraid that I would fall.A beautifully arranged basket of vegetables in a farmer's market.
