Shrines similar to this wood carving of the crucifixion are found all over Romania. Bouquets or wreaths of fresh flowers laid at the foot of the shrine testify that religion is still strong.
I shot this in early spring and the landscape was drab…just a bit of pale green beginning to show. I added texture and color to give my photo a folk art look similar to a Czech artist, whose name I cannot recall, but whose work has stayed in my mind.
