An Oasis Ksar

Life in the Ksar

Libya 1961

A ksar is a village with houses, many of them, sharing walls.  In this small oasis village, the ksar resembles a motel. These homes may have belonged to the police who manned the local outpost.

The children wear skull caps, djellabas and pantaloons. They look like little dolls. One boy stands by a basket-like fence meant to protect a sapling that looks more like a stick than a living plant.
