Bayon: The Last Temple

Cambodia: six faces carved into the temple of Bayon

Six Faces

Siem Riep, Cambodia 2007

The temples of Siem Riep honor Buddha or Hindu Gods depending on the religion of the various rulers at the time. If the new ruler were Hindu, he’d have any Buddhist sculptures modified to look like Hindu gods and vice-versa. These faces of Bayon resemble Buddha and were commissioned by a Buddhist leader.

As I trudged through the temples, my mind seethed with the effort of trying to “find the photo”. You could say it was similar to my experience at Bangkok’s Grand Palace except here all was gray stone.

I shot this photo of six faces because our photo leader told me how to do it. So here’s thanks to Dennis Cox of Photo Explorer Tours. When I got home, I looked for my photo with six faces and couldn’t find it until the other day…I mean there it was in front of me all the time, but I didn’t see all the faces until this morning…and there it was: NUMBER SIX!

Below shows you the faces you may not have been able to find…I missed the one between the large face and the rather sly looking one on the end.
