Burkina Faso: Painted Houses

Guerounsi Village Boy

Burkina Faso 2002

A Guerounsi boy stands near his home.

We spent the night in this small village. Frequently, when we visited villages, boys of this fellow’s age would act out but the Guerounsi children did not. Maybe they had been told to be on their best behavior as the village received compensation for our visit. Or maybe, since they were a farming village, the children were more mature than some of their counterparts.

Maybe you think he looks a bit sullen, but if you could see his face enlarged you would not think so. He simply watched me intently, waiting to see what I would do next. I think he ‘makes’ my photo. He provides that spark of life.
