Despair

Despair

Sergei Posad Monastery…Moscow 2009

An elderly woman, maybe a nun, sits on a bench in the courtyard of Sergei Posad Monastery. Her posture makes me think of despair but she may be full of hope and peace.

I name my blogs with words like “despair” (when I can think of them and they suit my photo) in order to get more “eyeballs”. The last thing I want to do is ridicule someone.

Recently I read “Secondhand Time: The Last of the Soviets” by Svetlana Alexievich. If you are interested in Russia, her people and how they suffered under socialism, then read this book.

I used Topaz Impressions to give the background a slight painterly look. The scene, to me, looks like something out of a story by Gogol.
