Portrait of Tibetan Woman with Hair Ornaments
On the Streets of Yushou

A young Tibetan woman wears many beads of turquoise, a stone that is believed to contain spiritual powers. The red stones are coral and since that color is the opposite of turquoise, they are believed to maintain a spiritual balance. I don’t know what the large yellow stone is, but maybe it is a primitive form of amber, the same stuff that Berbers in Morocco use for their wedding necklaces.

The Tibetans must love these colors of turquoise, red and yellow. Notice that the design on the door is painted in those same colors.
