Tripoli: The Way It Was

Caleche on Streets of Tripoli Libya

Tripoli, Libya 1962

Life was peaceful in those days. The caleche, a horse-drawn carriage that serves as a taxi cruises past the main fountain in Tripoli. I think this street borders the shore of the Mediterranean Sea.

Tripoli Libya 1962: The palace of King Idriss

The Palace of King Idriss

In those days, King Idriss was likely to be in residence. Now the palace is a museum, but it still looks the same…from photos I’ve seen.

    Two fine photos absolutely lovely.
Caleche on Streets of Tripoli Libya needs to be flipped i,e left is right to represent actual position.
Thank you once again for all your work.

Oops! I’ll fix that. Thanks, Abdu.

Even though I have never been to Libya, I love those photos, too. My husband bought a small painting of a house in Libya and I have it hanging in my bedroom. I never tire of looking at it. One of these days, I’ll photograph it and put it on the blog.
