America’s Southwest

Anasazi Dwelling

U.S.A. 2013: A hidden canyon in Southwest Utah

I was thrilled when my guide, Vaughn, and I arrived at these Anasazi rock structures. First, because it meant that we could stop hiking and secondly, and this is the most important, I was going to shoot the same landscapes that the ‘big boys’ shoot. I’d seen similar photographs of America’s remote regions by well known photographers such as Kirby, Barnbaum, Sexton, etc.  Now it was my chance to photograph these spectacular ruins. As soon as I caught my breath, I began shooting.

My husband had arranged for archeologist and guide, Vaughn Hadenfeldt, to take us into some hidden canyons to see artifacts left from the Anasazi Indians (200AD to 1300AD). I was stunned to see these ancient ruins, hidden and untouched after centuries. It was  a photographer’s dream.
