Fisherman with Trap

Inle Lake, Burma 2011

If you go to Inle Lake with a photo group, your leader will hire fishermen to pose for you. They will simulate fishing techniques but it isn’t the real thing. They make more money posing than fishing when the tourists and their cameras are in season.

This man made his living fishing, but he was happy to pose for us. If you are a photographer, you know that although the men pose and try to follow instructions from the tour leader, it is still hard to get a shot that is a tiny bit different from thousands of others. I haven’t seen one like this…so far!
