Our bus crept through a Moscow intersection. I glanced out of my window and spotted this man on an apartment balcony and realized that Pushkin still lived! Got one shot as the bus pulled forward. The man’s haircut, beard and upraised, stiff collar. Right out of Eugene Onegin. Perfect.
Notice all the negative space. It makes the photo. What if I’d put this man in the center? That would take all the drama out, wouldn’t it?
