Contrast with Red

Two young monks walk down a colonnade in Bagan Burma

Stark Contrast with Red

With Photoshop you can change the atmosphere of a photograph, just by using curves or levels. Here, I’ve darkened the shadows until they are black. This makes the whites whiter. Of course the monk’s robes went black as well, but I masked them and painted the red color back in. Now the photo gives, to me, an ultra modern look. You could even remove the monks for a stark geometric look. I paid a lot to go to Burma and I worked at getting the monks in my shot, so I’d never, never remove them! But you could, if you wanted to.
