Curious

two horses peer from their stalls

Stablemates

Southern California 2013

After the Dressage show a few weeks ago, I walked through the barn to admire the horses. It was dark because the door was closed to keep the hot sun out. Horses don’t keep still and most of my shots are blurred. I was about to give up when I realized I might get a shot with two horse’s heads.

I pressed the shutter when the chestnut stretched his neck to almost block the nose of the bay. Nice! The two heads form a ‘V’.

A bottle of water hangs in the chestnut’s stall. That’s a toy for him to play with during long hours in the stall. Here in Southern California, horses spend their lives in their stalls with only a few hours each day being worked or groomed. A far cry from grazing all day on the green pastures on our small farm in South Carolina when I was a girl.
