Extreme Contrast

An Ethiopian priest meditates in the doorway of an ancient stone church in Lalibela

Priest Bathed in Light

Lalibela, Ethiopia 2013

I’d ignored this photo when I looked through my Ethiopia shots. The contrast was too severe and theĀ  shadows were filled with noise. After going to Mongolia with Jim Zuckerman, I decided to take an on-line course in post-processing with him. I admired Jim’s portfolio…you can see it here: http://www.jimzuckerman.com/stock-images… and I wanted to learn Jim’s secrets.

Our first lesson was correcting contrast. Actually, I knew the basics already. My problem is that I didn’t use the techniques to the degree that I should. I took much more time on the images I sent to Jim than I normally do. I think that is one of Jim’s secrets…don’t settle…work until you have made the image perfect.

That’s my new goal.
