A Fulani woman, with the tattooed lips that her tribe is known for, stands outside her home. She is pleased to be photographed, unlike most Africans. The woman inside the home is her servant or slave who is a member of a tribe such as the Bella. The Bella, originally captured as slaves, are lower on the social scale and yet tribes such as Touareg intermarry with them.
