Gloomy

moody street shot of Bucharest

Rainy Day in Bucharest

Bucharest Romania 2012

This rather gloomy photo makes me think of the cold war. Spies and danger. Men in trench coats and fedoras. Beautiful women who would just as soon put poison in your drink as look at you. The good old days.

Notice I didn’t remove the electric lines between the buildings. They add to the atmosphere…somehow they seem sinister: tapped phone lines and all that.

Usually, I remove any lines crossing the sky because my photography teacher despised photos with them.  In those days, before the digital darkroom, we had to figure out an angle where the lines wouldn’t be visible or we’d spend hours dodging them in the darkroom or spotting them with an ink designed to cover flaws in prints. Time consuming work. I prefer the digital darkroom.
