Village Streets

Boy holds cricket bat in anticipation of pitch on a street in an Indian city
The Batsman

A small city in India 2009

Cricket is India’s favorite sport and they are good at it. India’s team outranks that of England where the sport originated. England ranks sixth and India ranks first in the world.

A frequent sight as we walked in the neighborhood streets was a group of boys pitching that windmill pitch to a batter like this one. Often the boys would ask my husband to pitch. They must have thought he would know a thing or two about pitching a cricket ball or else they were challenging him. John was able to pass muster by using American baseball technique. Maybe the boys just wanted to try to hit something different.
