Rome: Interpreted

Rome, near the Forum 2015

The light falling on the Forum was so beautiful that we photographed everything in sight. My daughter shot some panoramas with her phone. I stuck with my same-old, same-old. Not that I can’t do panoramas, it’s just that I feel that I have more control when I shoot a particular aspect.

As Shot

Although the ancient brick buildings resemble the Coliseum with their many arched windows and doorways, they lose importance because the lighter buildings, church, bell tower etc. attract the eye. Cropping and dulling the colors made the brick buildings look more important; it lessened the contrast between them and the stucco pastels in the background. I used Alien Skin’s Snap Art 4 to give a graphic look and I added a texture-filter of my own making. To me, the result resembles an old sketch and I like it enough to have thoughts about framing and hanging it.
